What should I expect at the audition? The audition is meant to get to know you as a singers and will not be intimidating. You will be guided through a series of typical choral warm-up exercises. We will ask you to echo some rhythms and melodic patterns, sing a simple song as a solo, then in a round with the conductor. Then we will ask you to sing "Happy Birthday" as a solo, during which a conductor will add harmony to hear how well you can hold your own part.
Do I need to read music or prepare a piece for the audition? No
When do rehearsals begin? Rehearsals for the 2019-2020 season will begin on Thursday, September 12. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 at St. Ansgar Church, 515 Woodford Street in Portland.
What is the tuition? $300 per year
There will be a $100 discount for the second MGC singer in one family.
Are tuition scholarships available? Yes. Please talk to one of the co-directors if you need scholarship aid.
What is your gender policy? Our Policy for the Inclusion of Diverse Genders is that as a treble vocal ensemble, Maine Girls Chorus welcomes transgender and non-binary singers who sing in the soprano or alto range.

The spring concert will be a joint concert with Women in Harmony (our parent organization) On Friday, May 1 at 7:30 pm and Saturday May 2 at 4:00 pm, 2020.
