adding musical pizzazz to special occassions

The Choral Connection is a versatile, high-energy performing troupe specializing in vintage American popular music, sung in four-part harmony, delivered with wit and style.

Directed by Carolyn Tjon Burnstein, the 20-member troupe, or a smaller ensemble, sings and dances its way through a wide range of music. Popular songs and jazz standards include unforgettable numbers by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin, and other Tin Pan Alley tunesmiths. Additional highlights include Broadway favorites from past and present musical theater classics. As the weather turns chilly, the troupe polishes up its repertoire of cheery holiday music. Parodies and novelty numbers always add a dash of humor.

Shows contain upbeat songs, ballads, and medleys; choreography, dialogue, and props. Performances are well-balanced and snappily paced, tailored to suit your occasion and audience.

All performances include costumes, set dressing and props, range from 30-90 minutes, and are adaptable to both large and small venues. Since 1994, The Choral Connection has performed for both public and private audiences in the Ann Arbor area and around the great state of Michigan.

We'd love to entertain at your next special occasion!

The Joint is Jumpin'!

Saturday, May 31, 2008

The Joint is Jumpin! – an exciting, two-part celebration of American retro music – will be presented by The Choral Connection song & dance troupe and The Saline Big Band, one night only, Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 8 - midnight at the Morris Lawrence Building, on the Washtenaw Community College campus, 4800 E. Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor.

The Choral Connections colorful musical revue opens the evening in the Towsley Auditorium with animated vocals punctuated by uptempo staging and unexpected humor. This year’s show is an original production that puts its own spin on finger-snapping jazz standards, the happy days of small screen TV, and rousing hits from the world of musical theater. The audience will then move into the lobby, set up as a jazz club, for great listening and dancing to the swing music of The Saline Big Band. Refreshments and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Choral Connection, directed by Carolyn Tjon Burnstein and accompanied by Anita Delph, with Eric Nyhuis on percussion, is a high energy troupe specializing in choreographed four-part harmonies delivered with wit and style. Celebrating its 14th year, the 20-member group, and its eight-person ensemble, Etcetera, sings and dances its way through a wide range of vintage and contemporary American popular music. The Choral Connection gives public and private performances celebrating special occasions throughout southeast Lower Michigan.

The Saline Big Band was formed in 1973 by a group of musicians devoted to the sounds of the swing era. The 17-piece Big Band plays for audiences in southeastern Michigan, and has also performed in Brecon, Wales where they helped kick off the first-ever Brecon Jazz festival. Band members "masquerade" as doctors, lawyers, professors, band directors, managers, engineers, etc., but are all die-hard musicians at heart.

Advance tickets for The Joint is Jumpinare $20; tickets at the door are $22.

Groups of eight can reserve a table for The Saline Big Band portion of the evening.
